Robert C. Atkins, 88, of Ceres was recognized by fellow American Legion members for 64 years continuous membership in the Bland American Legion Post 20. The recognition took place in Atkins’ room at Carrington Place of Wytheville.

As long as his health permitted, Mr. Atkins was extremely active in American Legion activities. He never missed a meeting and was a constant membership recruiter. Sgt. Atkins served his country in Germany, France and Belgium during World War II. He enlisted in the Army on December 21, 1942 and was discharged on February 25, 1946.
